5 REASONS WHY OUR TOURS START IN LILLE, FRANCE

The ‘City of Light’ is a must visit on any traveller’s bucket list. The Eiffel Tower, Arch de Triopmhe, Champs Elysees, Notre Dame and the Louvre are essential, especially if it’s your first time. Then there are the famous designer shops, and delicious foods to savour. The metro makes travel easy, and there is plenty of great walking or cycling tours to be had. Do make sure you get to Paris at least once, take your time, and in your own time.

So, why do our tours start in Lille, and finish in Amiens or Arras?* Let’s find out.

REASON 1: You want to get full value out of this tour experience, and you have travelled a long way to honour the memory of your Anzac relative. This is a significant part of your travel plans and you have invested your time and money for that special purpose. So, our tours are designed to maximise your time on the battlefields and in the places your dear Anzac lived, fought and may yet rest.

REASON 2: You want travel to be simple and comfortable. Lille is easily accessed directly via train from the UK and anywhere else in Europe, especially Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. Even better is that the Lille accommodation is right next to the train station when you arrive. Our Amiens and Arras accommodation are right next to their respective train stations for ease of departure.

REASON 3: Time flies when you’re having fun. We know you need more time on the ground to reflect. Depending on which hotel and which ‘Arrondissement’ (area) of Paris your tour commences, you are probably about 2 hours minimum from an Aussie battlefield on the ‘first’ day of your tour. It could take 30-45 minutes just to clear Paris traffic in a coach. We find losing half a ‘tour’ day crawling in traffic or travelling long distances (Ypres is over 3 hours driving time) is not a fulfilling experience.

REASON 4: Most important of all is that by starting in Lille, we are on the Fromelles battlefield in less than 30 minutes, on your first touring day. If your tour concludes in Paris, you spend half the last touring day retracing your steps... By concluding in Amiens or Arras, we come straight from the nearest battlefield at the end of the day and enjoy a group dinner that evening.

REASON 5: You can add Lille, Amiens and Arras to the list of your new favourite French towns you would probably never have seen...

So, by all means, explore Paris, and discover all that Europe has to offer. Just know that when you tour with us, it will be the most fulfilling experience of your life.
